I can explain that. You typed up that "now we have to get good at towing and rehearse our number" and then you accidentally clicked the map tag (red pin). It wrapped your sentence in the google maps tag, but since "now we have to get good at towing and rehearse our number" is not a valid recognized location", it shows the map zoomed out over the whole US of A (at least for me, for others it may be their region).

Click on Edit Post below the map and you'll see what happened ... :-)

And yes, I totally agree, we need to get proficient and flawless at static towing. Don't want to jynx us but I think we do pretty well with the scooter rig.

Kim, Kent, how long is the runway at Madison? If we were allowed to tow, which method would we prefer? Should I start making arrangements with Rick?

I don't remember what the length of the runway is at that particular airport. I'll try to find that out. But given the options of static or scooter towing, our only reasonable option would be scooter towing since dropping 1 or 2 thousand feet of line to the whim of the wind can be hazardous to people, planes and or runway lights. As Tom P. would say, just my .02!

UPDATE
If it is Madison municipal airport, which I believe it is, the runway is 5000 ft.

Would Rick fly the Dragonfly to Madison? About static or scooter towing: if the crowd is near the building we can start with the glider in front of the public. This way, as the glider goes up we move away from the crowd and the line will not fall on them.

In all honesty I was more worried about the runway lights all the way down the length of the runway than I was about people or planes. We were told when we were towing at Bardstown airport that to replace one runway light would cost in the $400 range. With scooter towing you're bringing the line almost all the way back to the scooter. Not so with static towing.
If Rick could come over that would be great. When we used to do the Vinton county show in Ohio, they would launch an aerotow and we would do either one or two scooter tows while they climbed to altitude. Seemed to work out well at the time, but I'm open to other options. Of course this is all just speculation until we know if Kent and or Rick would like to come out and play on that particular weekend.
