Scooter towing Sunday at Cruzan Field anyone?
I would like to try the private airfield called Cruzan Field. The forecast looks good according to XC Skies forecast.

Updraft velocity predicted to be 500 to 600 fpm. Top of useable lift 3000' to 4000'. WSW Wind speed average 11 mph which would make for high scooter tows.

Nice big grassy area to set gliders up and land in. If interested, a nice little cross country possible about 15 miles to the glider port in Alexandria strait down wind.

Anybody interested in making a little Kentuckianasoaring history? Best Sunday forecast I have seen for awhile.

Heck, I'm in if we can get a third pilot out. James? Patrick? Bueller? I don' t think Michal will fly home from the Motherland! I'm interested if nothing else just so we can keep the streak going!

Patrick and James plan to be there around 9:45. Some forecasts show the wind speed increasing later in the day,

which will break up the thermals. Updraft velocity is predicted to be 300 to 400 fpm by 11:00 and 400 to 500 fpm by 2:00, dropping off dramatically by 5:00pm.

Well we tried out a new location for scooter towing and it really is a nice place. The Cruzans welcomed us and invited a few friends and family to watch as well.
When we arrived around 10:00, the sky was blue and the first cummies were forming shortly after we had everything set up and were everywhere by 11:30.
Patrick and James both took one flight, with Patrick being first ready. The wind WSW at around 14 and more at times. I launched Patrick rather aggressively and eased off the throttle, but still, he shot up like a rocket in that 14+ mph wind. I imagine it raised his heart rate a bit and the crowds as well. He topped out on tow at an estimated 1000'. Lift was preasent, but broken by the wind, making the ride alot of work and not so much fun. James' flight was about the same except he asked for a more gentle launch and tow. Kim and I decided not to fly unless the wind deminished, which it did not. Still a beautiful day to be out and Bob and his wife invited us to come out again on a better day. A big "thank you" to the Cruzans for allowing the use of there runway and to Kim, James and Patrick for making the drive.

What an absolutely beautiful place for aviation! Thanks Kent for finding this place. I'm with James, I don't know how you do it, but I'm glad you do! The Cruzan's were very welcoming and super, super nice! I hope we can get back out there and show them what this beautiful sport is really about. I wouldn't mind going out sometime and seeing them flying their powered parachutes. Even though hang gliding is the flyingest flying!
