Sunday 9-21 AM at Warren
Conditions look good for this Sunday at Warren: 17 mph WNW at 12 noon. Kent, are you up for it?

Not that I'll be able to go, but I'm seeing 23mph with gusts to 32mph. With those windspeeds you don't even need to climb up the dune! Just tie a 20 ft rope and with a little yank you'll be up like a kite in a few seconds. :-)

Sure wish I was in a better place in my life to go flying every weekend.:grrrrrr:

Well. Here is how it went. Kent, James and I as well as pilots from Hang Glide Chicago such as Michael Van Kuiken, another Kent, "Randy" (we are not absolutely sure about his name) and Gary Solomon ended up there late morning. James and I arrived earlier but we could not find a ranger to get permits and the conditions were already quite rough (20 mph) gusting 25-30 straight in, which demanded a crew. When Michael arrived, we helped him take off and he had the flight of the day. He did not quite make the gap, but he stayed up 15-20 min. After Kent, James and I found a ranger and got passes, in the early afternoon, I went twice, thanks to Michael, James and Kent who were on my wires. The first time, I took off, I started straight, then got pushed to the left, finally made a right turn and landed in the sand. That was a little scary. The second time, I made it to the right, in the lift band, but it was blowing so hard that pulling meant loosing altitude and easing out meant flying backwards not quite knowing what kind of stump was going to be there. Falcons do not penetrate much. I stayed parked for a few seconds and landed. Then came rain and more gusts. Then "Randy" went up the hill more towards the center as the wind had shifted NW. He and his crew got up the hill. Then another gail with 35 mph gusts. We waited on lauch, while looking at the beauty of the lake, filled with white caps, for the stip of sunshine on the horizon to broaden all the way to us. "Randy" took off in a 30 mph wind, went straight up, but got kicked all the way for 10 min, with each turn making him come backwards. James did not fly, because his and my gliders were too big for him in these conditions.
It was nice to see Kent. By the way, he has a cart he and I will load on the trailer, so we can use it with the scooter and hopefully get higher tows. Thanks Kent, James and Van Man (Michael) for the assisted lauches.
