Lets go flying.
It was nice to get airborne again. Short and sweet. Nothing spectacular, but we were itching to fly after all these week ends of bad weather. We arrived at the Sheridan site at 10 AM. The wind was NW aroun 7 mph. James went first. The rope caught on a sign and he had to release at 200 feet, turned 180 and did an emergency landing. Kim and James fixed the sign with a pole and James went again with a cross wind about 9 mph. He released at around 1400 feet found 2 small thermals just enough to zero in and landed spot on the road his trajectory was crossing. I went last with a cross wind about 7 mph, pinned off at 1300 zeroed in one of the same thermals and landed in the soybeans.

Well today was not a total loss for me, i went to an old friends place and talked for a while and flew from some 20ft bunny hills with two of my gliders i only got about 10-15ft high but was fun. wish my sons were tow operators, my old friend said i could use his farm to tow gliders. sure was good to talk to him again. think im going to talk to some of my other old friends in my area aswell about using there land to fly gliders.i installed a vertical fin on the old comet and moved the hang staps in front of the control bar, it did good.

I am glad you got some small flights in at the bunny hill. I think foot launching from a hill is a critical skill. But why do you need to move the hang straps forward? Of course moving them forward will help you keep your nose down (you will need to run as fast as the glider too until it can carry you or you will wack), but you should be able to foot launch keeping your nose down without changing the hang straps position which will increase your trim speed.
Does your friend have a ridge on his farm? Does he have a mile + long grassy field/bare road? If he grows corn or soybeans, it is not going to be long before his crops will be too high for us to tow, but it can be nice early in the season.

Oh forgot. im still working out the details on using that farm. the conditions down here would have been great if i could have gotten high enough to turn and circle in the thermal cycles and they where pretty strong and frequent the buzzurds where getting really high the cumulus biult very quickly, all about a 3hr window and then went to nothing. could have been great.

No i added the vertical fin to more stabalize towing move the staps due to more aft weight but still could put the straps back. the farm is slightly rolling hills no crops but he may put in alfa hay then its a no go.

The field is about 3000ft and if cut a few trees in back is about 5000ft long rolling hills, no bigs hills. i will see what i can do.

OK, you adjusted for the weight of the fin to keep the trim speed the same.
No crops, good!!! How long is it?
